Welcome to the first episode of the Sibling Soapbox Podcast! If you’ve ever chased a dream, packed your life into a U-Haul, or simply wondered what it takes to start over—this episode is for you.

We’re Heather Evans and Tristan Venture: a sister-brother duo from a small town in Washington State who traded cows for casting calls, rodeos for red carpets, and small ponds for the open ocean. Now, years later, we're launching this podcast to share real stories from real lives—with an open mic and open minds.

🎧 Audio vs. Video: Which Podcast Format Do You Prefer?

Our podcast is available in both video and audio formats. Why? Because everyone consumes content differently. Tristan loves video podcasts for the visual storytelling—no surprise since he's a filmmaker. Heather, a busy mom of three teens, leans into audio while driving, cooking, or managing the daily hustle.

🏡 Our Humble Roots: Life in Cowtown, WA

Before LA, there was Cowtown. Literally.

We grew up in the rural foothills of Mount Rainier, where cows outnumbered people and the yearbook had more hunting trophies than prom pictures. Rodeo clowns were classmates, and yes, we only had a single stoplight.

Despite loving our small-town childhood (think: bikes, bonfires, and Stranger Things vibes), we both felt the tug of something more—a bigger dream.

🎬 The Big Leap: Moving to Hollywood

With zero Hollywood connections and limited funds, we packed our lives into a U-Haul, sold both our cars, and shared a single hand-me-down vehicle—a Chevy “Celebrity,” no less. It was a literal ride into the unknown.

“We didn’t even see our apartment before renting it. Just a phone call and a faxed lease. Wild!”
“I walked miles to work because I didn’t have a car.”

Our first jobs? Tristan worked for ADT and learned LA through a Thomas Guide (yes, a book of maps), while Heather got a corporate gig at a nuclear isotope lab—a far cry from her dream of dancing on big stages.

🌟 Dreams in Motion: From Solid Gold to the NBA

Heather was inspired by ‘80s show Solid Gold and made that dream real—landing spots with NBA Dance Teams, Seattle Sonics and L.A. Clippers, as well as many other performance opportunities.

Tristan’s love for film started at age 10 after watching Poltergeist in theaters. That visceral experience sparked a lifelong obsession with storytelling and he was accepted into the prestigious USC Film School.

🎤 A Flashback to “DateMate” – Our First Show Together

Before podcasts were cool, we created “DateMate,” a public access TV show all about dating in the early 2000s—before Tinder and swiping culture. We built a pitch deck, created a pop-up book set, and even tried to get it picked up by a network. It was our first taste of on-camera collaboration.

The name “Sibling Soapbox” is rooted in family tradition. Growing up, if someone got too passionate at the dinner table, they'd be told to “get off their soapbox.” But here? We want you on your soapbox.
